Undress Brisbane 2013 Wrap-Up

Anna-Louise Wiklund

Saturday night – the organic cocktails were flowing, the music was pumping, and the stage was set for another ethical fashion showcase. This year’s Undress Brisbane was bigger (now taking up two levels of the China Town car park!) and better than ever. A great range of fair trade, organic, handmade, vintage, low-waste, locally made and ECA certified labels for men and women took to the stage in three runway shows – street wear, swim and lingerie, and evening attire. The fun might be over for another year, but don’t forget the Undress pop-up shop at Shop 11, 23 James St, New Farm is still going strong til this weekend – drop in to pick up some of your favourite catwalk looks from designers showcased on the night. In the mean time, read on for our highlights of Undress Brisbane 2013.

One Colour

Showing us all how office-to-evening basics are done, One Colour  kicked off the street wear runway by premiering their new trans-seasonal collection, Detour, created in collaboration with Viva Africa in Kenya. Cotton and jersey matched with subtle African print trims in a figure-flattering range of dresses, skirts and blouses.

Ampersander

Sydney-made frocks and blouses from ECA-accredited Ampersander turned heads with their delicate prints in a pretty palette of sky blue and lemon.

Studio JUX

It was Studio JUX‘s first time on a Brisbane runway – the debut of their cute range of shorts and comfy summer essentials at Undress also marked the European label’s official launch in Australia.

Sinerji

Other highlights included new prints from Sinerji, dresses from the always delightful East of Grey, a new range by the kings of men’s tees, Cameron and James, and the street-friendly fare on offer from online boutique Indigo Bazaar.

NICO Underwear

Intimates and swimwear were up next. Comfy, classic designs from Brisbane’s NICO Underwear were a highlight, along with Madonna Bain’s intimates and Koru Swimwear.

Fabled and True

The final evening wear runway was packed with gorgeous designs like this vintage-inspired frock from Fabled and True.

La'or

The incredibly vibrant silk creations of La’Or.

Harriette Hill

Power patterns from crowd favourite Harriette Hill.

Gemma Anastasiou

And what better way to cap off the evening than with a selection of pressed flower garments by Gemma Anastasiou.

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
