The Stitch Up – Do You Remember the Marvellous Makes of September?

above A PERFECT POOCH AND POCKET SKIRT COMBO FROM @ANIBALSDEN

We’ve made it to the ‘ber’ months, stitchy pals! That gentle slide to the end of the year where our friends in the northern hemisphere can burrow into increasing cosiness as you journey through Hot Girl Autumn into Cold Girl Winter. Down here in the southern hemmies, however, we’re looking down the barrel of Unseasonably Dry Girl Spring and Dangerously Hot Girl Summer. Ah, the inescapable realities of anthropogenic climate change…

But that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun, right? And you’ve all planted another bountiful crop of beautiful makes for us to admire this month. To commemorate this heartwarming harvest, we’ve put together a roundup of some of the most marvellous makes we’ve spotted. If you want to show off your sensational sewing, be sure to tag us in your posts and you might see yourself in The Stitch Up in months to come!

WEST FOOT FORWARD

A couple of top-notch Peppermint West End Jackets for those on the cooler side of the world. We heart @SPWorkSpace’s phenomenal fit, made from Sevenberry fabric, and @H.E.R._Stuff‘s sweet denim number, made for her friend Naomi.

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES

The Peppermint Wrap Skirt is a perennial favourite but this month we’ve seen some clever sewists take it out on the town as a formal fit – @KorrieKorrie made it into a terrific two-piece in silk dupion and @SageMoonStudio celebrated her 40th birthday in a special outfit of rich linen twill.

PLAID AND SIMPLE

These plaid looks are popping off! @Shaye_Hardisty is a vision of riotously clashing colour featuring a phenomenal Peppermint Wide Strap Maxi Dress, while @SewingChaos’s Peppermint Pocket Skirt, made in thrifted fabric and paired with a Jenny Holzer tee, makes the perfect outfit for the opening reception of a feminist philosophy conference.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

We’re going positively dotty over these beautiful polka-dot dresses! @Bxlsprout’s rayon Peppermint Peplum Top hack is cute as can be, while @Miss_Bortolot’s Peppermint Rozelle Slip is absolutely spot on!

SET OF SAMFORDS

Ah, the endlessly versatile joy of the Peppermint Samford Set – it works just as well as separates! @Unseamlessly has rocked some Salvo’s mystery fabric into the perfect punk pants and @Poppi_Florence’s vintage tablecloth top is a vision. You thrift flip queens!

SPRING INTO ACTION

The Peppermint Spring Shorts never fall far from our collective hearts. In fact, we may have some exciting news on that front coming soon… In the meantime, enjoy two excellent pairs – @PhoebeRosita’s marvellously modish linen and viscose two-piece and @Vrouwlijn_Wonderlijk’s awesome avocado-dyed linen shorts.

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
