The Stitch Up – A Few of Our Favourite Me-Made May Makes

If you’ve read our recent interview with Zoe Edwards, the marvellous founder of Me-Made May, you’ll know that the beloved online challenge is so much more than a simple celebration of home sewing – though it contains plenty of that. It’s about improving your relationship with your handmade wardrobe – thinking about what you like to wear so you can make more mindful makes.

That’s why we are always so chuffed to see our free Peppermint patterns popping up in people’s Me-Made May posts. When we design our patterns for each issue, we consider a lot of factors. We want them to be different and unique, we want them to be stylish (whatever that means), we want them to be adaptable and adjustable to sewists’ spectacular creative imaginations, but above all, we want them to be wearable – comfortable, functional pieces that you’ll make and wear again and again and again.

So in order to shine a spotlight on some of the brilliant Peppermint sewists out there, we’ve put together a little roundup of a few of our favourite #MeMadeMay2022 posts we’ve spotted featuring Peppermint patterns. If you want to show off your sensational sewing be sure to tag us in your makes and you might see yourself in The Stitch Up in months to come!

EARTH TONE EXCELLENCE

We are digging these dusty hues! @Dawn_Sewing has us swooning with her gorgeous terracotta linen Peppermint Wrap Skirt, while @SerSewsALott looks like a dream in olive green and cream in her upcycled fabric Peppermint Peplum Top.

PASTEL PUNKS

We can also appreciate a pastel moment. @CrookedPins is looking Pretty in Pink in her double gauze Peppermint Valley Jumpsuit, while @Ainsley.Sews is crocodile rocking in her Nerida Hansen x Holli Zollinger pattern-blocked Peppermint Wide-Leg Pants.

WRAPTASTIC

A special double feature has to go to @ValeRBarrionuevo_ and her multitude of wonderful Peppermint Wrap Skirts of different lengths and lovely colours which she wears with such casual cool.

TERRIFIC TWO PIECES

We’re riding the wave of love that comes from seeing @Trish.Stitch’s gloriously inventive, colour-blocked makes including this winningly wavy Peppermint Loungewear Set. And @Sewrcery’s marvellous, monochromatic, matching two-piece set shows more outside-the-box thinking with the innovative way she styled her Peppermint Wrap Top

INNOVATION STATION

The incredibly clever @Laura.Wolfgang not only transformed the Peppermint Jumpsuit into a crop top (in a lovely hemp/cotton denim) she also made it reversible, nabbing two me-made outfits for the work of one! Now that’s what we call sewing!

PATTERN CLASHING PERFECTION

Here at Peppermint we love a bold print fabric. @Kali.Makes gets double points for combining two colourful prints with two Peppermint patterns – a trusty Wrap Skirt and a Wide Strap Maxi Dress transformed into a top! Not to be outdone, @ForAllLove is giving us glorious tropical extravagance in her tiered dress hack of the Peppermint Paddington Top

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
