10 of the Best Sewing Podcasts so You Never Have to Sew Alone

As anyone creating their own handmade wardrobe can attest, sewing at home can be a largely solitary activity. Of course, stitching away in the sweet silence of your own sewing space can be just the break needed from the outside world. But what happens when you want a little company or someone to chit-chat all things me-made to? Sewing should never feel isewlating… sorry, not sorry for the pun.

In our opinion, podcasts make the perfect sewing partner! While not quite the same as having a stitchy pal in your living room, they’re a great way to feel connected and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the sewing community. They also allow full use of your eyes and hands for the project at hand. Talk about win-win!

With conversations spanning everything from sizing inclusivity and cultural appropriation, to up-and-coming indie pattern labels, sustainable fabric options, DIY hacks and sewing space organisation, there’s a topic and a podcast for everyone at every stage of the handmade wardrobe journey.

So without further ado, here are some of our favourite sewing (and sustainable fashion) podcasts we’ve discovered along the way… happy sewing and listening friends!

Love To Sew

Hosted by Canadian creatives Helen Wilkinson and Caroline Somos, Love To Sew is an upbeat sewing podcast encouraging a global audience of crafty listeners to “create their dream wardrobe by sewing their own clothes”. You’ll hear from changemakers in the sewing world, interviews with indie pattern labels and learn tips and tricks to level-up your own skills. Having recently aired episode number 176, we’d recommend a large project and a binge-listen.

Stitch Please

As the official podcast of Instagram account Black Women Stitch, Stitch Please centres and celebrates the creative lives and handmade wardrobes of Black women in the sewing community. What began as “the sewing group where Black lives matter”, the podcast gives a voice to and champions Black sewists, along with movers and shakers in the community, to share inspiring interviews and expert advice.

The New Craft House

New kids on the podcast block, Hannah and Rosie from The New Craft House are winning friends and delighting listeners around the globe with their weekly chats with members of the sewing community. From meaningful interviews with makers about their sewing and business journeys, to tips for planning and making a winning handmade wardrobe, there’s something here for every home sewist.

Seamwork Radio: Sewing Stories

The official podcast of indie sewing pattern company Seamwork, Seamwork Radio: Sewing Stories is exactly that – stitchy tales from the cutting room floor. With Seamwork founder Sarai Nitwick as the host, the podcast covers everything from quick tips to make your paper patterns last to what to do when your hobby starts to feel like a chore, exploring the creativity of sewing and what it means to sew a handmade wardrobe.

unCUT: The Maker’s Podcast

Hosted by crafty trio Juliet, Atia and Alice, unCut is a podcast for makers who want a deep dive into the creative process. Featuring intimate chats with everyday makers in the sewing community, the podcast invites listeners to find the joy in making and explore their relationship with creating things they love “without fear of criticism”.

Wardrobe Crisis with Clare Press

We couldn’t share a roundup of must-listen sewing and fashion-related podcasts without a nod to Wardrobe Crisis with Clare Press. Now in its fifth season and with an archive that’s 141 episodes deep, it’s still the go-to podcast for all things fashion, sustainability and conscious consumerism.

Sewing Out Loud

Hosted by mother and daughter duo Zede and Mallory Donohue of Sewhere blog, Sewing Out Loud dispenses practical know-how to the everyday sewist. Be guided step-by-step through how to embroider a t-shirt or commiserate with your fellow sewists in ‘Sewing Mistakes You Make Over And Over Again’ (we’ve all been there). You’ll come away with a wealth of new knowledge and be thoroughly entertained in the process.

Conscious Chatter

While not strictly a sewing podcast, Conscious Chatter is good fodder for meaningful background listening on your next project. Hosted by Kestrel Jenkins, and billed as an “inclusive audio space”, the podcast explores the stories and impact of the clothes we wear, interwoven with narratives of sustainability. Whether it’s interviews with eco-minded brands like Maggie Marilyn or learning about the future of plant-based technology in fashion, it’s a must-listen while you make!

Sewing For The Weekend

Another mother and daughter team on the podcast scene, Beth and Nina Firulli created Sewing For The Weekend for the pure pleasure of discussing their “passion for fashion” and all things handmade. Offering down-to-earth and practical sewing advice, they explore trending topics in the sewing community, from DIY capsule wardrobes to how to shop for sustainable fabric options.

In the Making

Exploring creativity as a tonic for tough times, new podcast In the Making muses about the mental health benefits of creative habits –  and whether sewing, knitting, painting or writing is good for us, even if we’re not very good at it. Produced by social impact agency Makeshift, it features interviews with makers and artists who spin personal yarns about how their own creative practice helped them through a difficult time.

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
