above IT’S PRETTY KNOTTED

When it comes to keeping warm as the winter winds blow, do as nature intended: skip the electric heater and make your home into your own cosy nest. Think softness when it comes to textures, materials and even the impact on the planet and you’ll be snuggly in no time. Here’s a roundup of a few of our favourite cosy and sustainable pieces to add to your winter cave.

Seljak Riverbed Blanket

The latest creation from the talented sisters behind Seljak Brand is the lush Riverbed Blanket. Knitted with merino wool, the rich colours and design are inspired by rivers running through agricultural regions. Its generous size and ribbed texture make it soft for snuggling, and because it’s made with natural fibres, it can actually be composted at the end of its life (with blankets currently being tested at beloved closed-loop farm Loop Growers).

Jade and May Colourful Cord Cushions

In a range of jewel box colours like Emerald, Mustard and Fuscia, these textured cord cushions from Geelong’s Jade and May pack a serious design punch. Hand-dyed and made in Bali, they’re just the thing you’ll need to help you build a luxurious bed fort.

It’s Pretty Knotted Chunky Knit Throw

When it comes to chunky blankets, we say go big or go home (so to speak). Putting her comically oversized knitting needles to work, Perth artisan and knitting devotee Wendy McClelland has larger-than-life, cosy and handcrafted home decor all stitched up with her label It’s Pretty Knotted. The chunky hand-knitted collection uses only superfine Australian merino wool, and you can choose to buy ready-made blankies or knit your own with one of her DIY kits or workshops.

Woolenstones Felted Stone Pouf

Creating stepping stones between art, nature and function, these handcrafted felt poufs are made from soft New Zealand sheep wool. Their Ukrainian makers, currently working from a temporary workshop in France, use merino, mulberry and silk to bring the stones’ realistic details to life.

As the world careens towards AI seeping into our feeds, finds and even friend-zones, it's becoming increasingly hard to ignore.

We just wanted to say that here at Peppermint, we are choosing to not print or publish AI-generated art, photos, words, videos or content.

Merriam-Webster’s human editors chose 'slop' as the 2025 Word of the Year – they define it as “digital content of low quality that is produced usually in quantity by means of artificial intelligence.” The problem is, as AI increases in quality, it's becoming more and more difficult to ascertain what's real and what's not.

Let's be clear here, AI absolutely has its place in science, in climate modelling, in medical breakthroughs, in many places... but not in replacing the work of artists, writers and creatives.

Can we guarantee that everything we publish is AI-free? Honestly, not really. We know we are not using it to create content, but we are also relying on the artists, makers and contributors we work with, as well as our advertisers, to supply imagery, artwork or words created by humans. AI features are also creeping into programs and apps too, making it difficult to navigate. But we will do our best to avoid it and make a stand for the artists and creatives who have had their work stolen and used to train AI machines, and those who are now losing work as they are replaced by this energy-sapping, environment-destroying magic wand.

Could using it help our productivity and bottom line? Sure. And as a small business in a difficult landscape, that's a hard one to turn down. We know other publishers who use AI to write stories, create recipes, produce photo shoots... but this one is important to us.

'Touch grass' was also a Merriam-Webster Word of the Year. We'll happily stick with that as a theme, thanks very much. 🌿
