The Stitch Up: Take a Peek at These Amazing April Makes

Sewists unite! It’s one of those wonderful times of year where the whole world is in a transitional season and I gotta say, I feel like it brings us together. Those of us in the southern hemisphere are moving from the warmer to the cooler months and those in the north are doing the opposite, so we’re reaching for similar-length garments and similar-weight fabrics as we walk the line between our retrospective seasons. Whilst we’re united in what we’re wearing, I love how we’re also united in our enthusiasm for what’s to come! It’s an exciting time for us sewists, as we layer up or down our transeasonal pieces and start planning for what new makes are on the cards for the approaching season!

Here’s a little snapshot of the Peppermint sewing patterns some of our community have gravitated towards this April. We bring you The Stitch Up!

Whether you’re headed towards warm weather or cool weather, you know there are a bunch of fabulous sewing patterns to choose from in the Peppermint pattern stash – so have a browse and get making! Don’t forget to show us your sensational sewing by tagging us in your posts on Instagram @peppermintmagazine. You might see yourself in The Stitch Up in months to come!

THAT’S A WRAP

The Peppermint Wrap Top  (made in collaboration with @inthefolds) was a popular choice last month and with good reason. A classic shape, easy construction and the perfect pick for this time of year! If you need some wrap top inspo, check out the beautiful work of Cassie @cassie.nicole.creates and Simone @lesrobesdesimone.

Speaking of wrapping up, the Peppermint Robe Jacket pattern (made in collaboration with @common_stitch) is the perfect choice for the warm/cool days we’re enjoying right now. Canada’s Club Tissus has made a classic version in a truly beautiful natural linen and we couldn’t love it more!

NOT A MOMENT TO LOSE

Suzie @suzannemade didn’t waste a minute when we released the Peppermint Somerset Swing Dress (made in collaboration with @sewing.masin) and printed out the pattern within 10 minutes of hearing the news of this pattern launch! And what a jolly good job she did.

PERFECT PINAFORE

Lari @lariidaily has claimed the Peppermint Milton Pinafore (made in collaboration with @just_patterns) to be a dress she’s going to wear every season! Can we take a moment to appreciate her fantastic fitting?! And we love the way she’s styled it with a casual t-shirt. *chef’s kiss

MATCHY-MATCHY

Suna @threadbitchbrighton has used the Peppermint Wrap Skirt (pattern made in collaboration with @inthefolds) as the bottom half of a magnificent matching set! She recommends this skirt to beginner sewists for the easy-to-follow instructions and new skills to master, like sewing darts and French seams.

PULL UP YOUR PANTS

Min @_min_makes is showing us all up by making a wearable toile of the wonderful Peppermint Wide Leg Pants (made in collaboration with @inthefolds). We can’t wait to see the final edit! Meanwhile, Kelsey @worthdrygoods is at the other end of the spectrum and is celebrating her fourth pair of these most excellent pants!

BUSHWALKING BUT MAKE IT FASHION!

Alice @alice_x_wang rolled out her Peppermint Paddington Top (made in collaboration with @frenchnavynow_ ) for a bushwalk. What a gorgeous choice of fabric and we love how she’s extended the length of the sleeves!

THE BELLE OF THE GREEK EASTER CELEBRATIONS!

Robyn @robyn.quilts is making us swoon with her beautiful Peppermint Belle Shirt (made in collaboration with @modern_sewing_co). The fabric choice is perfection and we love that she used 75c buttons from her stash! A wonderful make to don at her family’s Greek Easter celebrations.

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
