The ‘A Climate for Change’ Issue – Out Now!

Peppermint Issue 43

Welcome to our brand new Spring Issue 43 – we’re so glad you’re here!

This edition we’re exploring the current climate for change, with a focus on how the arts can be used as a vehicle for activism, education and changemaking. We spoke to three people working in the film, visual arts and music industries – Damon Gameau, Guy Abrahams and Heidi Lenffer – to discover their thoughts on why art is such a powerful medium for sharing and disseminating ideas, inspiring us to get creative in every area of our lives!

In other climate-related content, we know the reality of the climate crisis can feel overwhelming (and it’s normal to feel a sense of grief about the state of our planet), so we delved into the issue of eco anxiety – hearing from scientists, psychologists and those who’ve experienced it to offer some tips on how to manage it (hint: immersing yourself in nature is always a good idea).

Elsewhere, our coverstar Allie Cameron from eco intimates label Hara muses on her experience of beauty and equality; we tackle the topic of digital decluttering, and how minimising the use of your devices can lead to a calmer and happier mind; we meet two women from the Australian body positivity movement who created their own amazingly diverse photoshoot to help showcase a wide range of bodies in the media; and we talk to the founder of Seven Women – an Australian social enterprise that empowers marginalised women in Nepal through education and employment.

We also chat to the delightful duo behind cult ethical textiles brand Ace&Jig; look at ways to live sustainably on a budget; take a peek inside the studio and production process of jeweller and sculptor Holly Ryan and her nature inspired, minimalist brand; and admire the beautiful home amongst the trees and eco living philosophy of Amy Roberts, founder of iconic independent Australian fashion brand Vege Threads.

If that’s not enough, you’ll find a roundup of our favourite healthy cereals (because hey, we have to explore the big issues too, right?); a free wrap top sewing pattern; an eco guide to the cool country town of Castlemaine; celebration cakes made with native ingredients; and more beautiful ethical and sustainable fashion brands than you can shake a stick at. We hope it inspires you to dream of (and then help create) a better world!

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
