Seven Amazing Online Vintage Stores

Avenue Boutique online vintage shopping

While it’s hard to beat the familiar smell of an op-shop or the joy that comes with unearthing a gem from the depths of its bargain bin, sometimes you just need the ease and convenience of shopping from the sofa (and if you’re wearing your PJs, even better). With that in mind, here are eight retailers that blend old-school fashion with new-school ecommerce to offer a curated range of vintage clothing – hurrah!

The Ninety Nine

Sydney’s The Ninety Nine prides itself on digging up the kind of classic vintage you’ve seen your mum wearing in old photographs and wish she had of kept. Retro pieces are a level above the usual hand-me-downs—this wide-leg floral jumpsuit has festival season written all over it. You can also shop retro-inspired designs from a selection of brands, including made-in-Melbourne label, SISTER.

Garmentory

Best clear some closet space – alongside 3,000-odd established labels and emerging designers, Garmentory stocks vintage from more than 500 secondhand boutiques from all four corners. There’s a special place in our hearts for the pretty swing dresses from Bird on a Wire in Lisbon, these cuties from Cloak and Dagger  and the cool basics from Preservation Vintage.

Avenue

It’s all about easy-to-wear summer basics at Arizona-based Avenue (top photo). Their vintage fashion is delightful (we’re gaga for this denim dress) – but it’s their  stunning secondhand sterling silver pendant jewellery sourced from Taxco, Mexico that steals the show. Avenue also stocks a handful of established ethical designers, including Ace & Jig and Ilana Kohn, plus their own range of locally made cotton clothing and hand-cast jewellery.

Jean Franklin

Jean Franklin (above) draws its inspiration from early 70s Americana. A self-titled collection of garments made to order from deadstock fabrics pairs perfectly with hand-picked vintage. These suede high-waisted shorts and this 1960s botanical-print shift dress both caught our eye.

Graceland

Melbourne-based Graceland has us all shook up like ol’ Elvis himself, with vintage pieces sitting pretty alongside their own ethically made line that features a plethora of linen loveliness.  Cute-as gingham jacket, anyone?

Bonsergent Studio

This Paris-based store (above) peddles ultra-chic, minimalist European vintage, straight from the personal collection of two French-Argentinian stylists. We’re quite sure we could make room in our wardrobe for this versatile grape linen dress and this timeless turtleneck/linen trouser combo.

Na Nin

What started as a strictly vintage-only online boutique has evolved into a platform that showcases pre-loved finds alongside indie designers. Na Nin even has its own house line inspired by retro cuts and made locally in Los Angeles. We especially love the vintage silk blouses and high-waisted trousers, which come in a pretty palette of buttercream linen and turquoise.

Another great make from Lisa from @SunnySewsEveryday:

My #PeppermintWaratahWrapDress is finished and I’m so proud of it. It has been designed not to flap open and flash your pants in the wind, so I feel confident it will be a great wheelchair or standing dress in English weather.

✨ INSTANT CLASSIC ✨

The Peppermint Myrtle Shift Dress is a beginner-friendly make with a few special details based on the ever-stylish shift shape – the perfect dress you need in your wardrobe right now!

Myrtle cuts above the knee with options to customise the length. Don’t think she’s reserved for hot weather either: try a heavier-weight fabric to turn your Myrtle into a pinafore-style garment for layering.

For our fabrics we chose two from our lovely sewing partner @Karmme_Apparel – the bold Rottnest Stripes in a lightweight, soft-drape cotton, and the quality linen in the handpainted Mexico Collection.

Get making the Myrtle – the only question is, can you stop at just one?
